Configure sequence prompts and keypad menus
Use Media for an ordered message or recording, and Gather digits when the caller should choose a path with their keypad. Start with the opening-hours template to explore a complete menu.
Real calls require the selected audio and speech capabilities to be available in your workspace.
Add an ordered message
- Add Media after the call entry or another step.
- Add commands in the order the caller should hear them: speech, uploaded audio, a tone, or a pause.
- Select workspace audio for playback, or enter speech text and a supported language.
- Connect the success output to the next step and preview the prepared values.
Commands run in order. The success path follows their completion. Changing the speech language does not translate the text. Check the spoken wording and pronunciation during a real-call test.
A standalone Pause keeps the call connected. A recording already in progress continues through it. Use an intentional duration and an explicit next step.
Collect a keypad choice
- Add Gather digits and put the menu announcement in its prompt commands.
- Set the digit count and input timeouts. Choose a finish key when the caller needs one, or None when entry finishes through the other configured conditions.
- Add named matches, such as hours for 1 and directions for 2.
- Connect each match, timeout, and unmatched-input outcome.
- Preview each path with sample input.
The first keypress interrupts the active Gather prompt and skips its remaining prompts. Putting the announcement in a preceding Media step does not give it that Gather interruption behavior.
Matches compare the completed digit string exactly. Keep the maximum digit count and finish key compatible with the choices: a finish key ends entry and cannot also be part of a configured digit match.
Handle silence and unmatched input
Use the timeout path when input times out and the unmatched-input path when collected digits match no named choice. Give callers a short explanation before ending, or transfer to a call entry to repeat the menu.
Test a recognized choice, silence, an unmatched choice, and a keypress during the announcement. A completed preview proves the sampled path can be evaluated; real calls establish timing and audible behavior.
Control recording
Recording commands remain in preview. The runtime checks recording availability when the call runs.
Place recording start and stop commands around the part of the call you intend to capture. A start command does not wait for a message to finish: follow it with the desired recording interval or other call activity, then stop recording.
Plan consent and keep sensitive input outside the recording interval. Marking keypad data private controls its use in sequence data; it is not a substitute for controlling recorded audio.
Inspect the resulting artifacts separately from the sequence result. The recordings guide covers recording and transcript access. A completed recording step does not establish that a transcript is ready.
