Caller IDs

A caller ID is a number your workspace is allowed to present as the caller on an outbound call. Bird checks the calling number your equipment presents (the SIP From header) against this list on every call, so a call goes out only under a number you have verified, and your trunk cannot be used to spoof someone else's.

Caller IDs live on the Trust page. The list shows each number, its verification status, when it was verified, and when it was added, 25 to a page.

Choose Add caller ID and enter the number in E.164 format, a leading + followed by the country code and national number. Each number can be registered once per workspace.

Saving it places a verification call to that number straight away. Answer it: the call reads out a six-digit code. Enter that code in the dashboard to finish. Bird gives you five attempts at the code, and the caller ID becomes usable as soon as one is accepted.

To get a fresh verification call at any point, delete the entry and add the number again. That works whether the first call never arrived, the code went stale, or the attempts ran out.

If you read these values from your own tooling, match the ones you handle and treat any other as a status you do not handle rather than an error.

The verification call has to be answered by someone who can hear the code, so for a number that normally rings an unattended system, point it at a phone you can pick up for the minute the verification takes, then move it back. For a number that receives no calls at all, contact support.

Removing a caller ID takes effect on the next call: from then on, a call presenting that number is refused with caller_id_not_verified. Calls already in progress continue, and the call records that used the number stay as they are.
