Connect with an API key and a signed webhook
Each Customer.io connection links to one Bird workspace and imports its active, SMS-enabled phone numbers as available senders. Numbers that are still awaiting regulatory registration stay hidden until approved, and you can add separate connections if you send from multiple Bird workspaces.

How Customer.io and Bird work together.Customer.io orchestrates your segments and journeys while Bird handles carrier delivery, sender compliance, and status reporting.
Send SMS from synced numbers or alphanumeric IDs. Text messages send through your imported Bird phone numbers, or through an alphanumeric sender ID that you claim in Bird and add manually in Customer.io. Leave image attachments empty, since MMS is not supported on this connection.

Automatic transactional and marketing classification. Customer.io transactional sends are labeled as transactional traffic in Bird, while journey automations and broadcasts are labeled as marketing. Make sure your senders are registered for the appropriate traffic categories in regulated destinations.

Real-time delivery status and opt-out sync. Successful deliveries appear as delivered in Customer.io, carrier failures surface as bounced with Bird's specific error reason, and sends blocked by an existing suppression are marked as dropped. Inbound STOP replies and carrier opt-outs automatically unsubscribe the recipient from that sender.
