Why pre-verification fails, and when to try again
Your number's status reads Failed and the reason is verification_code_not_received or verification_rate_limited. The first means Bird did not obtain a usable verification code in the attempt. The second means WhatsApp limited the verification requests. Neither error alone establishes that you do not control the number.
What pre-verification does
WhatsApp must confirm that you control a number before it can send. Bird requests a code by automated voice call or SMS and submits the received code on your behalf.
Each receiving method has a ten-minute code window. Bird can try the alternative method when it is available, so the whole process can take more than ten minutes. Infrastructure retries can extend the elapsed time further. Follow the number's current status rather than treating ten minutes as a completion deadline.
Check the failed attempt
Open the number under WhatsApp > Numbers and read its error before retrying.
- Code not received: check that the number supports the receiving method and that Bird can receive the verification call or SMS. Routing or reception problems can prevent a usable code from arriving.
- Verification rate limited: avoid repeated requests. Wait for the retry time shown on the number's page; Meta can continue to restrict requests after that time.
If the number has other connection errors, use Phone number setup to investigate those first.
Try again
- Wait until Try again becomes available. When the last code-request time is recorded, the dashboard waits two hours from that request, rather than two hours from the later failure.
- Select Try again on the number's page. Bird starts another verification attempt. You do not need to disconnect the number first.
- If it fails again, keep the error and attempt time and contact support. Avoid repeatedly requesting codes while the underlying reception problem or provider limit is unresolved.
The retry button becoming available does not guarantee that Meta will accept the next request or that the code will arrive.
Receiving by voice or SMS
Bird prefers voice when an unused voice attempt is available and can use SMS when supported, including when it cannot prepare the voice route. Check the number's capabilities and reception path before starting. Voice capability gives the process another way to receive a code; it does not guarantee a higher delivery rate.
