Supported countries and restrictions

Before launching in a market, confirm that Bird supports the destination and that your content complies with applicable law and channel rules. This article is not legal advice.

Where Bird can and can't serve

Bird delivers to recipients in most of the world, but some regions cannot be served at all:
  • Sanctioned regions. Applicable sanctions may prohibit service to specific countries, regions, entities, or individuals. You cannot override a platform block.
  • Legally restricted regions. A small number of additional markets are restricted because local law makes compliant delivery impossible or because Bird has no lawful route to recipients there.
Sanctions and restrictions change. Before committing to a new market, select Feedback > Contact us to confirm the current destination requirements with Bird support.

Content restricted by market

Even in fully supported countries, some content categories are restricted or prohibited: by local law, by carrier and mailbox-provider rules, or by Bird's own policy. Common examples of categories that are regulated differently per market:
  • Gambling and betting
  • Alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis
  • Pharmaceuticals and health claims
  • Financial services, credit offers, and cryptocurrency
  • Adult content
  • Political and religious messaging
A category may require a license in one country and be prohibited in another. Bird's Acceptable Use Policy prohibits spam, phishing, malware, harassment, and illegal content.
If your business operates in a regulated category, select Feedback > Contact us to confirm requirements with Bird support, and consult your legal adviser before launching.

Data residency: pick your region up front

Delivery destinations are separate from data residency. At signup, Bird assigns each organization to us1 (United States) or eu1 (European Union). Its workspaces, API keys, messages, recipient data, and event logs remain in that region. Authentication and account administration use globally replicated data.
You can change the detected region before confirming signup, but the organization region is immutable afterward. See Base URLs & regions.

Launch checklist for a new market

  1. Confirm the destination isn't sanctioned or restricted: select Feedback > Contact us and ask Bird support for the current list.
  2. Check whether your content category is regulated in that market.
  3. Review the consent rules that apply to recipients there: for email, start with list consent & CAN-SPAM.
  4. Confirm that the sending complies with the Acceptable Use Policy, which applies in every market.
