One incoming number. The intended answer.
Send incoming calls to your phone system or a verified forwarding number. Check the route, follow each call leg and plan what the caller can do when nobody answers. Route incoming calls to a published Bird-native sequence from your dashboard.
Select the route. Follow the result.
A route describes the number’s intended handling. Trace the destination and any related leg, then confirm the customer’s result in your application.
Fieldnotes Studio
+1 202 555 0194Audio off. No live call is placed.
- 01Caller reaches a Bird-held number
Receiving capability and the number’s configured answer apply.
- 02SIP trunk and studio PBX
Inbound trunk enabled, with a delivery gateway.
A verified target with permitted destination and account capacity.
Enrollment and a usable published version must be confirmed.
The number deliberately turns incoming calls away.
- 03Second SIP gateway
Primary gateway did not answer. The configured gateway with a higher priority number is tried next.
Choose a route to inspect
Choose the route and observed condition, then follow the call. Changing any input clears the previous observation.
Session: vss_example_inbound_1042- Telephone result
- Not inspected
- Business request FN–1042
- Unconfirmed in the application
Rejected with no rejection reason: the number was configured to reject. Configure an eligible route deliberately before making it public.
Rejected: no_route_found. This trunk has no delivery gateway. Add one and check inbound enablement. Rebind numbers previously reset to reject.
The forwarding leg is rejected with destination_not_enabled in this example. Inspect the arriving record too; two correlated legs do not establish a connected conversation.
The published sequence version is unconfirmed. No native execution is evaluated. Publish and select a usable sequence, or use your connected SIP application.
Failed with SIP 486: the destination was busy. Keep the service request open. This result does not claim an automatic alternate-gateway attempt.
The destination did not answer before timeout. Keep the customer request open and offer the agreed alternate contact or a later attempt under your application policy.
Final response unavailable. Reconcile this original session and each available call record before any replacement call. The telephone and business outcomes remain unconfirmed.
A telephone connection was observed in this fictional case. Verify two-way media separately and inspect the application’s confirmed result before claiming the request was completed.
The arriving inbound record retains the forward route. The outbound record describes the forwarded leg and has no inbound route of its own. Join both by session_id and inspect their separate outcomes and rated components.
Fictional routing example. No calls, audio, workspace configuration or purchases. Native sequence cases assume a usable published version when prerequisites are marked ready.

Understand the complete route.
Choose from the presentation options the number exposes, then check the recorded value. Verification establishes eligibility; carriers can still treat the presented caller ID differently.
Follow both forwarding legs
Forwarding includes receiving and outbound legs. Review the published rates and applicable handling components for the route you plan to use.
