eSIM

How is a travel eSIM different from a mobile plan?

A travel package supplies a defined allowance for a trip, while a recurring mobile plan provides continuing service over billing periods.

A booking app can include destination data alongside flights and hotels. The customer may still rely on another provider for calls.

What does a travel package provide?

A travel package offers an allowance for specified destinations and a defined validity. The app should show coverage and validity so travelers can check whether the package covers their itinerary. Showing whether the same eSIM accepts another package helps them plan for a longer trip without assuming they need another installation.

A data-only package can support internet applications without providing ordinary mobile calls or SMS. A customer who needs a phone number and mobile calling needs an offer that includes those services.

What changes with a recurring mobile plan?

A recurring service continues across billing periods. Showing the current plan and scheduled changes helps subscribers understand which service they will receive. The next renewal and payment method let them prepare for the charge. A number choice or porting journey may also be part of onboarding.

If a payment fails, the app should show how to update payment so the subscriber can resolve the failed charge. Showing whether service remains available helps them decide whether they need another connection while resolving payment.

Before an upgrade, the service should explain allowance and charge changes so subscribers can decide whether to accept them. A cancellation date lets them arrange replacement connectivity before service ends. Explaining what happens to their number helps them avoid losing a number they intend to keep.

Can a business offer both?

Yes. An employer can arrange a continuing work plan and an eligible travel allowance for a trip. A customer-facing app can place travel data beside a broader mobile proposition.

An additional travel package does not automatically change the domestic subscription or its renewal. Showing the services separately in the customer’s account helps them identify which allowance a purchase adds. Separate terms also make clear which service continues after the trip.

Choose a travel eSIM for a defined trip and allowance. Choose a recurring mobile plan for continuing service with an ongoing billing relationship.

In short

  1. The offer defines the service.

Both arrangements can use eSIM. The offer determines the commercial and network behavior.

  2. A data package need not include mobile calls or SMS.

A data-only package can support internet apps without mobile calls or SMS.

  3. A recurring plan needs a continuing customer experience.

Renewal, payment recovery, plan changes, portability and cancellation are part of the product.
