Bird vs Sinch
Bird vs Sinch for SMS
Send SMS, register 10DLC campaigns, and track delivery webhooks from one regional API host and one key, using Bird’s typed SDK, dashboard, or hosted MCP server. Compare Bird with Sinch’s batch SMS endpoints, separate US registration host, and locally hosted MCP package.

This comparison focuses on migrating from Sinch’s SMS batch API, which Sinch marks as end-of-sale while directing new integrations to its Conversation API. If you are starting a net-new Sinch integration, evaluate the Conversation API separately.

What Sinch does well,
and where Bird is different.
What Sinch is great at
Java and .NET, for which Bird does not ship a server SDK. Their unified SDK covers Node.js, Java, .NET and Python. Teams that require those SDK languages should compare the supported operations with using Bird’s HTTP API.
Delivery reporting you tune per batch. Each batch chooses its own delivery report detail level and can override the service plan’s default callback URL for that send, whereas Bird subscribes webhooks at the workspace level.
Preview a batch before sending. Sinch’s SMS dry run can render personalized bodies and report segment counts before a batch is submitted.
Where Bird is different
AI agents can operate your workspace directly. Bird’s hosted MCP server lets Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT, or your own agent send messages, inspect delivery status, and submit 10DLC registrations without deploying a local MCP package.
Safe retries prevent duplicate texts. Include an idempotency key on send requests so retrying a timed-out call within three hours returns the original response instead of texting the customer twice.
Declare message intent on the send call. Free-text sends specify whether a message is transactional, marketing, authentication, or service traffic directly on the request, which Sinch’s batch payload has no field for.
The matrix
Capability by capability.
Sinch lets each batch customize its delivery reporting and offers official Java and .NET SDKs. Bird unifies sending and 10DLC registration under one regional API host, provides a hosted MCP server, and supports idempotent retries and traffic categories.
| Capability | Bird | Sinch |
|---|---|---|
| Send request | BirdSend a JSON request to the SMS messages endpoint on your regional host using a single bearer API key. | SinchSend a JSON batch request under your service plan path using a bearer token, passing an array of recipient numbers and a message body. |
| Safe retries | BirdPass an idempotency key on the send call to replay the original outcome if you retry within three hours. | SinchSinch’s SMS batch endpoint has no idempotency parameter, so your application must check batch status before retrying a timed-out send. |
| Message intent | BirdFree-text sends declare a traffic category (transactional, marketing, authentication, or service) on the request. | SinchBatch requests accept a client reference string for correlation and a delivery feedback flag, neither of which declares the traffic category of the message. |
| Hosted MCP server | BirdConnect Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT, or your own runtime to Bird’s hosted MCP server to send texts, check delivery logs, and manage 10DLC registrations. | SinchSinch ships a self-hosted MCP package for account operations alongside a separate hosted MCP server that searches documentation. |
| A2P 10DLC registration | BirdRegister US 10DLC brands and campaigns programmatically through the same regional API host. | SinchTheir Registration API registers brands and campaigns on a separate host. Check SDK coverage for the registration operations you need. |
| One host for the whole channel | BirdSending, 10DLC registration, and delivery webhooks share one regional base URL and one bearer API key. | SinchSinch splits SMS sending and US 10DLC registration across separate API hosts with their own authentication setups. |
| Delivery events | BirdSubscribe a workspace webhook to sent, delivered, and failed SMS events delivered as JSON payloads signed with Standard Webhooks. | SinchConfigure a default callback URL on the service plan and optionally override the URL and delivery report detail level on individual batches. |
| SDK languages | BirdSMS SDKs for TypeScript, Python, Go and PHP. Use the HTTP API from other languages. | SinchA unified SDK for Node.js, Java, .NET, and Python. |
The same send
The send call has a different primitive.
Sinch’s example submits a batch request containing an array of recipients and a message body. Bird’s single-message call takes one recipient, the text body, and the traffic category.

What does SMS cost per country?
Read published destination rates on the SMS pricing page and check separately itemised carrier and registration fees. Include segments, sender rental and the applicable destination in your estimate. Ask an SMS specialist about an unpublished rate or a larger deployment.
Switching cost
Plan the cutover.
For single-recipient sends, drop the service plan path and map Sinch’s recipient array and message body to Bird’s single recipient and text fields. For multi-recipient broadcasts, map to Bird’s batch endpoint (up to 100 independent messages per call) or campaign tools, move callback URLs to workspace webhooks, and pass your correlation reference in request metadata.
Run 10DLC campaign registration and phone number porting in parallel with your code changes. Keep Sinch’s OAuth registration credentials active while your existing numbers remain in service, confirm transfer steps and opt-out imports with Bird, and verify live delivery receipts on a test number before shifting production traffic.
