Position
Senior Legal Counsel
The Role
We're looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join Bird's legal team and support our commercial, product, and corporate legal work. You'll partner closely with leadership across Sales, Product, Finance, and People to provide pragmatic legal guidance in a fast-moving environment. The role is broad in scope: you'll handle complex commercial deals, help shape our data privacy posture, and advise on regulatory matters across multiple jurisdictions.
What You'll Do
Commercial Contracts
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including enterprise SaaS contracts, data processing agreements, vendor agreements, and partnerships
- Advise the Sales and Business Development teams on deal structure, risk allocation, and contract strategy
Product & Privacy
- Advise Product and Engineering on legal and regulatory requirements across Bird's messaging, email, and voice products
- Support compliance with global data protection frameworks including GDPR, CCPA, and applicable telecom regulations
- Review product launches, marketing programs, and new market entries for legal risk
Corporate & Employment
- Support corporate governance, board matters, and subsidiary management across Bird's global entity structure
- Advise the People team on employment law matters across multiple jurisdictions
Cross-functional Partnership
- Build trusted relationships with business stakeholders and act as a practical, solution-oriented legal partner
- Help develop and scale legal processes, templates, and self-serve resources
What You'll Bring
- 6+ years of legal experience, with at least 2 years in-house at a technology or SaaS company
- Strong commercial contracts background with experience negotiating enterprise software agreements
- Solid understanding of data protection law (GDPR, CCPA) and telecom or messaging regulation is a plus
- Comfortable working independently and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, distributed environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; you can explain complex legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers
- Licensed to practice law in the United States (JD required)
