Primeros pasos con el email

Hey. It's Bob from Bird. And today we're setting up email. When you create your account, you can navigate straight to the email product. When coming here for the first time, you'll instantly land on the onboarding. And there are two ways to get started.

You can copy the setup prompt and hand it to your AI agent, which will give your AI a clear step to download the Bird CLI and how to guide you through the setup. Alternatively, you can follow the setup checklist, which is what we'll be doing today.

The first step is generating an API key. Make sure to keep the key a secret, as this is used to authenticate each request. Also, don't forget to copy and store it, as we won't show the token again. The second step is sending a test email.

There are pre-written snippets that you can paste in every language. You can copy one or copy for AI to hand it over to your agent. We've already filled in the code snippets to get you going with the first test email. The email will be sent from a Bird domain, and we will get the send to the address that you signed up with.

Just press send, and it goes straight into your inbox. Once you've sent your first email, it's time to add your own domain. When adding your domain, it will take you straight to the domain setting page. When it's created, everything will read as pending.

In order to start using your domain, we need to publish the DNS records. This will need to be done on both the sending and the return path. Optionally, you can add records for tracking and receiving. You can copy this for AI, which will walk the agent through the setup, or you can forward the instructions to a colleague who manages your DNS.

DNS is split up into sections for each record. You've got the name and the value, and each with a copy button. We always recommend to copy them rather than typing, so you don't make a mistake. Besides domain verification and sending, there's also the option to activate tracking and receiving.

Both of these are optional. You can turn tracking on for email open events and link clicking events to make sure that you can see if someone opened your email or clicked on a link within it. Now, I'm going to go and set up my domain, and I'll be right back. All right, I'm back. I've published my records, and most of them are verified.

You can always refresh, and if one of them stays on pending, just go and double-check it. This is why we copy the values over instead of typing it. On this one, I purposely made a mistake just to make sure to showcase that nothing actually goes wrong.
