Connect Gemini CLI to your Bird workspace in four steps.

Register Bird’s hosted MCP server, sign in through your browser, and install Bird agent skills so Gemini can inspect and manage your channels.

Terminal · Gemini CLI
gemini mcp add bird https://mcp.bird.com --transport http
Terminal · Skills
npx skills add messagebird/bird-ai
  1. Register the MCP server

Run the Gemini CLI command above to register Bird’s hosted MCP server over HTTP. If a Bird plugin has already registered the server, keep that existing connection.

  2. Authorize your Bird account

Start the MCP sign-in flow in Gemini CLI and approve access in your browser to link your Bird account and workspace permissions.

  3. Install Bird agent skills

Run the skills command in your project directory so Gemini loads Bird workflow guidance for CLI operations and email deliverability checks.

  4. Verify workspace access

Ask Gemini to confirm your active Bird account and workspace before running channel tasks. Returning your workspace details confirms that browser authorization succeeded.

Run messaging, domain, and call tasks with natural-language prompts.

Ask Gemini to diagnose email bounce reasons, check SMS sender readiness, or list active Voice calls against your live Bird workspace.

Understand a delivery issue
Check my recent email failures. Group them by reason, inspect the affected sending domain, and tell me what needs fixing before making changes.
Prepare a new channel
Help me set up SMS for order updates. Check my workspace and available senders, explain what is missing, then prepare a test for a number I provide.
See what is happening now
List the Voice calls that are active right now. Separate connected calls from calls that are still ringing, and show their IDs.

Manage authentication and workspace access with confidence.

Review how Gemini CLI signs in to Bird, scopes tool permissions to your workspace, and recovers when authorization expires.

Does connecting MCP give Gemini unrestricted access to my workspace?

No. Bird’s MCP tools run under the account and workspace permissions you approve during browser sign-in. Gemini can inspect logs, check senders, or send messages within that authorized scope, and you can revoke access from your Bird account settings at any time.

Do I need to generate an API key to use Bird’s hosted MCP server?

No. Interactive sessions in Gemini CLI authenticate with Bird’s hosted MCP server through browser sign-in. Create an API access key when you deploy your own backend service or webhook integration that calls Bird’s REST APIs directly.

Why do Bird tools appear in Gemini CLI when requests still fail?

Registering the MCP server URL makes Bird’s tool definitions visible to Gemini CLI, while executing calls requires an active browser sign-in. Run the MCP authentication flow again in Gemini CLI and verify your workspace identity before retrying the task.
