8:08 min

Hey, and welcome back to another video. Today, we're going to be looking at email broadcasting. So, in previous videos, we've already looked at contacts, creating contact groups, using our API to send chunks of emails. Now, what we're actually going to be looking at is a dashboard only feature to actually send out a broadcast. Now, what is a broadcast? Broadcast is basically a one-time large email that you want to send out to your customers. So, this could be a specific marketing campaign because of Black Friday, or it can be any other reason for you to start reaching out to a large group in one go.
Now, when we're in the dashboard, we can navigate to email, and then we'll see broadcast as part of that option. Now, when you're in here, you'll see an overview of all of your previous broadcast, and you have the option to create a new broadcast. So, we're going to do that right now.
So, within the broadcast, there's a few things that we need to start filling out. There's a few prerequisites that we've already taken been taken care of that you can look into separate videos if you want to learn more about that. Now, the first thing that we need to decide on is the actual audience. So, who are we going to be sending this email to? Now, as I shared before, the usage for broadcast is specifically for sending out to a large group, and you've already set up groups in your contact file. So, here we can actually see that for my specific Aviary Shop, I've got two separate groups. I've got Aviary Shop sign-ups, and I've got a gold tier audience group. Now, I'm going to go to my shop sign-ups, and then I have the option to say who I actually want to send this from. So, here you have the option to select any of your domains that have been validated. I have only got one.
And then what the actual P sender needs to be. So, instead of discount, let's say that this is going to be a specific discount. So, we might as well use discount at. This can be completely customized. Because you're using a domain that has already been verified, you can send on any of the sub senders for this. Do be mindful that if you use, for example, discount at aviaryshop.com, that you actually have an email forward set up for discount at. Otherwise, if customer started to reply to, the email might not actually receive in an inbox and therefore they'll get a bounce.
Now, we additionally have the option to set a reply-to. Now, a reply-to allows you to actually receive emails on a different email address than the email that we sent it from. So, in this case, you might not have that specific discount at inbox, so we actually want to forward it to support at aviarymessaging.shop. So, in this case, they will see it coming from discount at, but when they reply, it will actually their reply will go to support at. Now, we have the option to set a email subject, but instead we're actually going to go and pick a template because within our email templates we've already gone ahead and set everything ready in terms of custom subject lines and custom headers. So, we're going to dive into our template list and you can see all of the different templates that we have. And for this, we're actually going to give the 7-day celebration promo to our sign-ups. So, here we can actually immediately see that the subject has been automatically filled. Here we can see that we have a custom attribute for the contact first name and the default being friend. So, basically, if we don't have a first name for a specific user, we'll just use friend, which we all set on the template level already.
Now, we can check the specific email that we have. If there's any thing specific that we want to update, that we might want to adjust, we can still do that last minute. And then once everything is ready, we can check the additional settings.
Now, a few of these settings are quite important. First one is the actual category. You can decide if a broadcast is marketing or transactional. Always be very mindful of this due to your suppressions. If you send out a transactional email, it will bypass the suppressions, uh but it also means that if they then start flagging, those for unwanted material that your sender reputation will get harmed much more quickly. So, this is clearly marketing, so we're going to use that. And then we have the option to select if we want to do additional tracking. So, we want to track the opens and we want to track the click rates.
Um now, it is important for this that you've actually enabled the tracking links um on your domain, for which you can learn more on our domain verification video. Now, lastly, we have the option to add additional tags. So, this will allow us to start filtering out uh individual broadcasts at a later stage. This can be anything for a specific uh event, Black Friday or something like that, to a specific code that I use internally to manage all of my broadcasts. Just so that if I want to pull the information later via the API or via the CLI or even via an agent using the MCP, that can always then be used to validate and to further filter out any specific um broadcast.
Now, lastly, we have the option to actually send a test email, so we can actually say who do we want to send this to, and then that will be sent over to your inbox. You You can You can see the look and the feel. But for now, we're going to go into the review state. Just have a final validation of everything that we've filled in to. So, we've got our Aviary Shop sign-ups, which only has one recipient. I've not got a lot of sign-ups. We can see who is sending it from. We can see that that reply to was set. We can set the subject. And then we have the option to send it now or to schedule it later, depending on what my requirements are. I'm going to go and send it now.
And we can immediately see that we land into the documentation, and we can see all of the numbers as they appear. Now, for the numbers, I'm actually going to go back into uh a previous campaign that I had already sent, just to walk you a bit through all of the different materials that we've got. So, the sent is the total number of recipients that we've sent this specific email to.
Um it might be that a sent fails and therefore that the percentage might uh deviate, which is then good information for you to actually start cleaning up your mailing list. We can see the percentage of delivered. So, this is a 100% delivery. Definitely something that we want. And we can see the opens. Now, on the open rate, it's also important to note that we calculate the open rate on the unique opens, meaning that if an individual user opens it, that is counted as opened. We also have the total amount of opens. That means if a specific user email opens an email several times, we count every single time, giving you a good indication of how much views you actually get within your emails.
Now, if you put a link in there and you put link tracking enabled, we can also see the total numbers of clicks. And then we have the option to see if there's any exclusions. So, this might be you have a large group and some of the users might have been suppressed. Those would then be excluded from the list so that we can clearly see what that split is in terms of your um mailing list.
Now, the same goes for your bounce rate. So, here we can actually see how many recipients actually have an invalid email address, which we can then again start making actions in terms of clean up. We can see if complaints have happened. So, this is specifically for users who mark your email as spam. It isn't for any emails that might have landed in spam already. And then we can actually see how often a user has clicked on the unsubscribe. So, again, you can really start tracking how good a broadcast is actually performing.
You can see how much retention you get, but also how many people actually opt out from your emails because of specific content, allowing you to further tweak the content at a later stage for broadcast that were more successful. Now, and then you've got the view of the graphs where you can actually see the total engagement. Um you can see if you've got multiple links, you can see the individual clicks per link within that email. Uh and then we just have the overall overview of the specific message.
Now, that is broadcast in a nutshell. There's a lot that you can do with this to make it yours. There's got more documentation online. You can reference the information using our CLI and MCP. Um but for now, I want to just leave you with that. If you've got any questions on anything specifically, have a look at our documentation or reach out to our support team. As always, I want to thank you for watching, say happy sending, and I'll see you in the next one.
