Ship and debug customer messaging straight from Claude Code.

Connect Claude Code to Bird’s MCP server and agent skills to verify sending domains, wire transactional Email, SMS, WhatsApp, OTP verification, and Voice into your codebase, and inspect bounces or live calls from your terminal without copy-pasting API keys or cURL commands.

Connect Claude Code to your Bird workspace in three terminal steps.

Install the Bird plugin to register the hosted MCP server alongside CLI workflow and domain-audit skills, then authorize your workspace in the browser.

Terminal · Plugin
claude plugin marketplace add messagebird/bird-ai
claude plugin install bird@bird-ai
Terminal · Standalone MCP server
claude mcp add --transport http bird https://mcp.bird.com
  1. Install the plugin

Run the plugin commands above to register Bird’s hosted MCP server alongside the CLI workflow and email domain-audit skills. If you prefer to connect the MCP server without the skills, run the standalone server command instead.

To install the skills standalone for local CLI workflows, run npx skills add messagebird/bird-ai.

  2. Authorize the connection

Open the MCP menu in Claude Code, select Bird, and complete the browser consent screen to grant workspace access.

  3. Confirm your active workspace

Ask your agent to confirm your signed-in account and active workspace before running your first messaging task. Seeing your user identity and workspace details confirms the connection is ready.

Run real messaging diagnostics and setup tasks with plain-language prompts.

Ask Claude Code to audit failed email deliveries, configure an SMS sender for order notifications, or inspect active Voice calls against your live Bird workspace.

Understand a delivery issue
Check my recent email failures. Group them by reason, inspect the affected sending domain, and tell me what needs fixing before making changes.
Prepare a new channel
Help me set up SMS for order updates. Check my workspace and available senders, explain what is missing, then prepare a test for a number I provide.
See what is happening now
List the Voice calls that are active right now. Separate connected calls from calls that are still ringing, and show their IDs.

How authentication, permissions, and workspace access work

What to know about browser sign-in, delegated workspace permissions, and troubleshooting before running live messaging commands in Claude Code.

Does connecting MCP give my agent unrestricted workspace access?

No. Claude Code operates strictly within the Bird role permissions you hold and grant during browser authorization, and asks before executing state-changing actions in your terminal. You can revoke the OAuth session from your Bird account settings whenever needed.

Do I need to generate an API key to use the hosted MCP server?

No. Bird’s hosted MCP server authenticates your terminal session through browser OAuth sign-in, so you do not need to paste API keys into local config files for interactive development. When your application sends Email, SMS, WhatsApp, or Voice traffic in production, it authenticates separately with its own scoped access key.

What should I check if Bird tools appear in Claude Code but requests fail?

Verify that your browser authorization is active. Registering the MCP server URL makes the tool definitions visible to Claude Code, and completing the browser sign-in flow authorizes requests against your workspace. Re-authenticate the Bird server from Claude Code’s MCP menu, then ask the agent to confirm your active account and workspace.

Extend your AI workflow across Bird. Inspect the hosted MCP architecture, add domain-audit and CLI skills, or connect your workspace to additional coding agents.
