DNS records
DNS record splitter
Split DKIM keys and long TXT records into quoted 255-character chunks formatted for your DNS provider so resolvers reassemble your key without syntax errors.
Why a TXT record needs splitting
A single DNS TXT string holds up to 255 characters under the DNS protocol (RFC 1035). Because a 2048-bit DKIM public key runs roughly 400 characters, it exceeds a single string limit. To publish it cleanly, you store one TXT record composed of multiple quoted strings that DNS resolvers concatenate automatically on lookup.
Each chunk sits inside its own pair of double quotes, separated from the next chunk by a single space outside the quotes. A stray space inside the quotes becomes part of the reassembled value and breaks DKIM signature verification. This splitter counts bytes accurately and places the quotes and spaces where your DNS host expects them.
Auto-splitters
Cloudflare and several managed DNS hosts split and quote long TXT values automatically when you paste the raw string.
Manual splitters
Route 53 and Google Cloud DNS require you to split values over 255 characters into quoted strings before saving the record.
Zone files
BIND-style zone files wrap multi-string records in parentheses when they span multiple lines, with each 255-character segment quoted individually.
Splitting runs locally in your browser without sending your DNS records or selectors to an external server.
Split your record
Paste your TXT record value, select your DNS provider format, and copy the split output. Use the formatting toggles if you need custom quoting or line breaks.
Your record
Paste a long TXT value: a DKIM key, SPF, or any record over 255 characters. Already-split or zone-file records work too.
DNS provider
Pick where you'll paste the record.
Wrap parts in quotes
Most providers need quotes; some (like Azure) add them for you.
One part per line
Put each string on its own line instead of a single line.
Zone-file block
Wrap everything in a name TTL IN TXT ( … ) block for BIND-style files.
Max length per part
The DNS limit is 255. Lower it only if your provider is stricter.
Split record
Copy this into a single TXT record at your DNS provider.
Paste a record on the left to see it split here.
For a Bird sending domain, follow the DNS publishing guide to add your records, then check the domain verification status.
