When is Twilio a strong choice?
Twilio is a strong fit when your application depends on its established TwiML verbs, Voice SDKs or ConversationRelay. Inventory those dependencies before treating a provider change as a number port.
When should you choose Bird?
Choose Bird when you want the calling connection, routing and operational records alongside your existing Bird workspace. Use sequences for defined call behavior, or connect the conversational application you want to operate. Validate the complete workflow you need before replacing a dependency.
Can I move TwiML directly into Bird?
TwiML is Twilio’s instruction format; it is not a Bird sequence package. Rebuild the calling behavior around the intended prompts, inputs and decisions. Check any conference, queue, payment or media feature individually before planning a replacement.
How should you compare the full cost?
Start with the same destinations, call directions and expected duration. Include number rental, each connected leg, recording or transcription, and the speech and model runtime your design uses. A telephone-minute rate and a managed AI-conversation rate include different work; compare the total workflow.
What does a careful migration involve?
Inventory TwiML, Studio or application-generated instructions, Voice SDK clients, ConversationRelay sessions, recordings and callback endpoints. Separate the telephone connection from the application behavior you intend to keep.
Map the behavior
Map defined prompts and keypad branches to a Bird sequence. Keep live application decisions in your existing SIP or conversational application. Treat ConversationRelay as a speech-runtime dependency; replacing the telephone connection alone does not replace its managed speech services.
Prove a complete call
Use numbers you control to test audio, input, tool results, failure handling and the final record. Keep the old route available while validating the replacement.
Plan the cutover
Confirm number eligibility, porting or route changes, access and capacity. Preserve historical records and define how new call identities connect to your application.
