Next Steps With IPv6

16 × 9

The Internet is in the process of undergoing a complete replacement of a core piece of its infrastructure – the IP addresses we have used since its inception are running out. The conversion from IPv4 to IPv6 will touch every corner of the Internet, and I’ve written quite a bit about the challenges this transition presents for the messaging community (such as here and here.)

One of my primary beliefs with IPv6 is that it presents a great opportunity to improve the effectiveness of messaging anti-abuse and security measures. A big problem with email abuse in the existing IPv4 environment is that there are many legacy systems that prevent the retrofitting of more effective policy restrictions. IPv6 is an opportunity to break those bonds, and for the industry to display true vision towards how to manage abusive traffic on the Internet moving forward.

I’ll be hosting a session at Interact to explore these challenges in more detail. We’ll look at the ramifications of the IPv6 conversion as they apply to messaging, and equip attendees to ask the right questions of your internal stakeholders and external vendors. Hope to see you there.
