About
Welcome to the messaging infrastructure of the modern internet.Welcome to Bird.
Our Story
Bird builds the wires the modern internet runs on. SMS, email, voice, real-time — for over a decade. We built them ourselves, end to end, instead of licensing the way most companies do. That bet is what lets us ship a developer API for messaging that other platforms can't match — same wires underneath, new SDK on top.
When we launched Bird in 2011, most providers licensed their telecom stack from established players. We built ours — 240 direct-to-carrier SMS connections, piece by piece. The hard way, but the only way to control what mattered: latency, deliverability, reach.
We kept building. Email deliverability craft after the SparkPost acquisition. The WebSocket layer we operated as Pusher. In Asia, we were the first to connect Kakao, Line, and WeChat through a single API. By the time we'd consolidated hundreds of telecom and messaging APIs into one platform, about 40% of the world's commercial messages were flowing through our network.
Today, that infrastructure ships as a developer API. Email, SMS, voice, and WhatsApp on the same auth, the same idempotency contract, the same webhook envelope. SDKs in every major runtime. An MCP server so the agent on your shoulder can drive it.
For the next decade, the question isn't whether the wires can carry it. It's what you'll build on top.
