Frequently asked questions

Average global deliverability is 94.4% across 180+ countries. Actual rates vary by destination — Tier 1 markets (US, UK, EU) typically exceed 98%, while some emerging markets may be lower due to carrier filtering. The smart routing engine continuously optimizes routes to maximize delivery.

For each SMS, the routing engine evaluates all available carrier paths based on real-time deliverability data, latency, and cost. It selects the optimal route and automatically fails over to backup routes if the primary carrier returns errors or degrades in performance.

Throughput limits depend on the number type and destination country. US long codes support 1 message per second, US toll-free numbers support 10 per second, and short codes support 100+ per second. You can configure custom rate limits per number, and the API handles queuing automatically.

Bird automatically processes STOP/UNSUBSCRIBE keywords for US and Canadian numbers as required by TCPA and CTIA guidelines. For other countries, inbound opt-out messages are delivered via webhook so you can handle them according to local regulations.

Yes. Bird supports number porting from all major providers including Twilio, Vonage, and Sinch. The porting process typically takes 1-2 weeks for US numbers and varies by country. During migration, you can run both providers in parallel with no message loss.
