## Pricing questions

### Am I charged per message or per segment?

SMS is priced per segment. A long message or some character sets can produce multiple segments, so a single message can incur more than one segment charge. Check encoding and segment counts when estimating volume.

### Are carrier fees included in the SMS rate?

The tables show Bird rates and carrier fees separately. Use the applicable destination, sender type and carrier when estimating the complete cost.

### Do I also pay for a phone number?

A rented number has its own recurring charge. Sender registration and setup charges may also apply. These are separate from the SMS segments you send or receive.

### Why do rates differ by destination and sender type?

Routes, carriers and sender types have different costs and requirements. Select the destination and compare the supported sender types before choosing a rate.

### Are inbound and outbound SMS priced the same?

Check the separate sending and receiving rows for your destination and sender type. Do not use an outbound rate to estimate replies.

### Can I get a custom SMS rate?

Contact Sales with your destinations, sender types and expected volume. An agreed SMS rate applies to SMS; other products and separately listed fees retain their own terms.
