## From sign-up to your first answer in an afternoon.

There is nothing to create, nothing to poll, and nothing to clean up. Follow these three steps and Lookup is in production.

- **01** Sign up for Bird. Create your account and issue an API key with the lookup scope. There is no plan to choose and no resource to provision, but every lookup is charged to your organization's prepaid balance, so top it up before the first one goes out.
- **02** Run your first lookup. One request, one answer. A phone number comes back with its country, the network serving it, the network that issued it, whether it has moved network, and a coarse line type. An email address comes back with one verdict on whether it will accept mail. The Lookup page in the dashboard runs both, one at a time, before you write any code. - **03** Add the properties you need. Name classification, porting, presence, roaming, sim_swap, or score in type to answer the finer questions. Each block reports its own status, only a delivered block is billed, and a lookup that fails costs nothing. Send an Idempotency-Key so a retry replays the answer you already paid for.
