## Step-by-step guide

Subscription keywords allow your customers to join your SMS marketing lists simply by texting a specific word to your number. Here's how to set them up in Bird.

## Step 1: Access SMS settings

- In the main menu Open Developer product 
- In the menu Navigate to Channels 
- Expand SMS section 
- Click on SMS settings
- Open Automations tab

## Step 2: Create a new keyword

- Click on the "Add Keyword" button.
- This will open the keyword creation form.

## Step 3: Configure your keyword

- Enter your trigger keyword(s) in the designated field.
- Example: "JOIN" or "SUBSCRIBE"
- Select the list that subscribers should be added to when they text this keyword.
  - This determines which audience list your customers will join.

## Step 4: Enable subscription functionality

- Toggle on "Allow customers to subscribe to the list by texting this keyword."
- This setting is essential for the keyword to function as a subscription method.

## Step 5: Save your settings

- Click the "Save" button to activate your subscription keyword.
- Your keyword is now ready to use.

## Step 6: Important considerations

- Remember that subscription keywords cannot overlap with compliance keywords.
- Compliance keywords like "STOP" or "HELP" are reserved and cannot be used.
- Ensure your chosen keyword is:
  - Easy to remember
  - Relevant to your brand or campaign
