## Set up with your agent

[Read the agent setup guide](/docs/ai/set-up-your-agent)

Copy this prompt into your coding agent:

```text
Bird connects customer communications, data and automation. Help me build with Bird using my coding agent.
1. Read https://bird.com/docs/ai/set-up-your-agent.md and follow its setup workflow for this client. Use an existing connected Bird MCP server or signed-in CLI when available.
2. Read the product guide for the task I want to complete and inspect my existing integration. Identify the workspace, available operations and required setup.
3. Help me complete a first example for the product and destination I choose. Follow the operation through to its actual result, explain any uncertainty, and help me choose the next step.
First task: Compare the documented sending workflows and prepare a small migration test, including domains, templates and delivery events. Keep the current provider running until I approve a cutover.
Use this Bird page as the starting context: https://bird.com/email-api/compare/bird-vs-brevo
Read its Markdown alternative and linked guides. Keep the first example relevant to this page and the customer outcome I choose. Preserve the supplied campaign context when following Bird signup or sales links.
## How do Bird and Brevo compare?
Compare send retries, IP controls and stored content alongside the integration. Brevo’s campaign tools matter when the same team handles marketing and transactional email.
| Capability | Bird | Brevo | Who wins |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Transactional send API | [Bird’s TypeScript SDK](/docs/sdks/typescript) throws typed errors by default; .safe() returns data and error. | [Brevo’s Node SDK](https://github.com/getbrevo/brevo-node/blob/main/README.md) constructs a BrevoClient and sends with transactionalEmails.sendTransacEmail. The [send endpoint](https://developers.brevo.com/reference/send-transac-email) accepts JSON, templates and messageVersions. | Even |
| SMTP relay | [Bird SMTP](/docs/guides/email/smtp) accepts port 465 with TLS or 587 and 2525 with STARTTLS, using an API key. | [Brevo SMTP](https://help.brevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/7924908994450-Send-transactional-emails-using-Brevo-SMTP) uses an SMTP login and SMTP key, not an API key. Its [relay ports](https://help.brevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/10905415650322-Which-SMTP-port-should-I-use-Port-587-465-or-2525) are 587, 2525 and 465; Brevo recommends 587 with TLS. | Even |
| Email address validation | [Bird email lookup](/docs/guides/lookup/email-addresses) checks one address per call, returning a verdict, confidence, address flags and suggested corrections. | [Brevo’s NeverBounce integration](https://www.brevo.com/integrations/neverbounce/) supports list validation and real-time verification of new contacts through an external service. | Even |
| Idempotency on send | [Bird retains completed responses for 3 hours](/docs/guides/idempotency); later retries are fresh requests. | [Brevo’s batch idempotency guide](https://developers.brevo.com/docs/heterogenous-versions-batch-emails) documents headers.idempotencyKey in the JSON payload, with a 30-minute lifetime applying to the entire messageVersions batch. | Bird |
| Stored message retention | [Bird stores message bodies for up to 30 days](/docs/api/reference/get-email-message-content) when content storage is enabled. | [Brevo’s retention settings](https://help.brevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/4415743225746-Configure-a-custom-retention-period-for-your-transactional-logs-and-email-previews) keep enabled HTML previews for a chosen 1 to 24 months, or indefinitely without a deletion rule. For accounts with over 10 million email events, a separate policy deletes events older than 24 months. | Brevo |
| Published pricing | [Bird email plans and rates](/email-api/pricing) are read live in the table below. | Compare the selected plan with [Brevo’s published rates](https://www.brevo.com/pricing/), including its billing period and features. | Bird |
| Dedicated IPs and pools | [Bird dedicated IPs and pools](/docs/guides/email/dedicated-ips-and-pools) include automatic warm-up with overflow through the shared pool. | [Brevo dedicated IPs](https://help.brevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000240344-Set-up-your-dedicated-IP-in-Brevo) can be assigned to senders and pooled. [Automatic warm-up](https://help.brevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/33359225915154-Warm-up-your-dedicated-IP-automatic-warm-up) is on Professional; Enterprise customers arrange personalized warm-up. | Even |
| Deliverability heritage | Bird acquired [SparkPost in 2021](/blog/welcome-to-the-nest-sparkpost). Its sending network [carries about 40% of the world’s commercial email](/email-api/features/sparkpost). | [Brevo’s warm-up](https://help.brevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/33359225915154-Warm-up-your-dedicated-IP-automatic-warm-up) continues sending through shared IPs while gradually moving traffic onto a dedicated IP. | Bird |
| SPF, DKIM, DMARC and BIMI | Bird verifies [DKIM, return-path and DMARC](/docs/guides/email/dkim-spf-dmarc). [BIMI](/docs/guides/email/bimi) is a separate DNS and logo configuration. | [Brevo’s dedicated-IP setup](https://help.brevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000240344-Set-up-your-dedicated-IP-in-Brevo) covers SPF, DKIM and DMARC records. Its [BIMI guide](https://help.brevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/27769318543506-Implement-BIMI-to-display-your-logo-next-to-your-emails) requires domain authentication and logo setup, with one static BIMI header per account. | Even |
| Event webhooks and signing | [Bird signs webhook deliveries using Standard Webhooks](/docs/guides/webhooks). | [Brevo webhook security](https://developers.brevo.com/docs/secured-webhooks) supports IP allowlisting, username/password authentication, bearer tokens and custom authorization headers. | Even |
| Channels beyond email | [Bird’s API](/docs/api) covers email, SMS, WhatsApp, voice, Verify and Realtime. | [Brevo’s platform](https://www.brevo.com/products/marketing-platform/) includes email, SMS and WhatsApp messaging alongside campaign tools. | Even |
| Vendor and procurement | Review [Bird’s published legal terms and policies](/legal) against your existing agreement and procurement requirements. | Review [Brevo’s published terms](https://www.brevo.com/legal/termsofuse/) against your existing agreement and procurement requirements. | Even |
| Mailboxes | [Bird’s agent mailboxes](/docs/guides/email/mailboxes) provide addressable inboxes, threads, replies and sender rules managed through code. | [Brevo’s inbound parser](https://developers.brevo.com/docs/inbound-parse-webhooks) provides HTML, text, attachments and extracted Markdown with the signature separated. | Bird |
| Agent tooling | [Bird’s hosted MCP server](/docs/ai/mcp-server) at mcp.bird.com exposes 354 tools. The [bird CLI](/docs/cli) sends and inspects email, manages domains, templates and webhooks, and gives [agents JSON output and semantic exit codes](/docs/ai/cli-for-agents). | [Brevo’s MCP server](https://help.brevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/27978590646802-What-is-Model-Context-Protocol-MCP) manages contacts, campaigns, templates, domains and account resources. Its [CLI](https://developers.brevo.com/docs/cli-reference) creates OAuth apps, scaffolds code and runs a local test server. | Bird |
## How do you send one HTML email?
Brevo’s BrevoClient sends sender, to and htmlContent through transactionalEmails.sendTransacEmail. Bird throws typed errors by default; this example opts into .safe() so the application can branch on data and error.
**Brevo** · send.ts
```typescript
import { BrevoClient } from "@getbrevo/brevo";

const brevo = new BrevoClient({ apiKey: process.env.BREVO_API_KEY! });

await brevo.transactionalEmails.sendTransacEmail({
  sender:      { email: "onboarding@yourdomain.com", name: "Acme" },
  to:          [{ email: "customer@example.com" }],
  subject:     "Your March invoice",
  htmlContent: "<p>Attached.</p>",
});
```
**Bird** · send.ts
```typescript
import { BirdClient } from "@messagebird/sdk";

const bird = new BirdClient({ apiKey: process.env.BIRD_API_KEY! });

const { data, error } = await bird.email
  .send({
    from:    { email: "onboarding@yourdomain.com", name: "Acme" },
    to:      ["customer@example.com"],
    subject: "Your March invoice",
    html:    "<p>Attached.</p>",
  })
  .safe();

if (error) console.error(error.message);
else console.log(data.id);
```
## What changes around the send call?
### How do saved email previews compare?
[Brevo’s retention settings](https://help.brevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/4415743225746-Configure-a-custom-retention-period-for-your-transactional-logs-and-email-previews) can keep a sent email’s HTML preview for the selected log retention period, or indefinitely without a deletion rule, when preview storage is enabled. For accounts that have sent more than 10 million email events, Brevo deletes events older than 24 months; Enterprise offers extended retention. Preview storage is disabled by default. Bird’s [stored message bodies](/docs/api/reference/get-email-message-content) are available for up to 30 days when content storage is enabled. Check both storage settings before relying on either provider for support investigations.
### How should I prevent duplicate sends during migration?
Keep a record of each business operation and its send outcome. [Brevo’s batch idempotency guide](https://developers.brevo.com/docs/heterogenous-versions-batch-emails) states: “The TTL for idempotencyKey is 30 minutes.” Reusing the key within that window returns duplicate_parameter and does not process the request. Bird’s [3-hour idempotency window](/docs/guides/idempotency) retains the completed response. Check your send record before retrying after either window expires.
## Published email plans
Bird’s full monthly ladder is shown below. Nearest-volume plans are labelled and are not quotes for Bird’s volume. Check billing terms, features and overages.
Pricing verdict: Bird. The verdict compares the lowest published monthly amount at each exact volume and currency; daily-only allowances, annual commitments, usage rates, starting prices and custom quotes are not compared.
## How should you compare email costs?
### What do the Bird and Brevo price rows include?
The table shows Bird’s full monthly ladder. Rival plans match the volume or are labelled with the nearest published volume. Bird’s amounts come from its live catalogue; Brevo’s linked amounts carry their check dates. Compare the billing period and included features before choosing a plan. Use [Brevo’s pricing page](https://www.brevo.com/pricing/) to check the features and add-ons for the selected plan.
## Switching cost: What does a Brevo migration involve?
Map [Brevo’s sender, templateId, params and messageVersions](https://developers.brevo.com/reference/send-transac-email) to Bird’s send payload and templates. Export both [transactional blocked contacts](https://developers.brevo.com/reference/get-transac-blocked-contacts) and [marketing contacts marked emailBlacklisted](https://developers.brevo.com/reference/get-contacts). The [migration guide](/docs/guides/email/migrate/brevo) maps both suppression sources into Bird’s workspace suppressions.
Replace [Brevo webhook authentication](https://developers.brevo.com/docs/secured-webhooks) with [Bird’s Standard Webhooks verification](/docs/guides/webhooks), and map delivery events using the migration guide. Replace the [Brevo SMTP key](https://help.brevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/7924908994450-Send-transactional-emails-using-Brevo-SMTP) with a Bird API key if you use SMTP. Test sends and handlers in [Bird’s mail sandbox](/docs/guides/email/testing-sandbox), and plan warm-up for new dedicated IPs.
