# Close your account

You can close your Bird account from your profile settings. We email you a link to confirm, and delete the account seven days after you confirm. Until then you can still sign in, use Bird as usual, and cancel the closure.

## How do I close my account?

1. In the dashboard, open your user menu and select [**Profile settings**](https://bird.com/dashboard/profile/account). The **General** page opens.
2. Under **Danger zone**, select **Close account**.
3. Type `DELETE` and select **Yes, close my account**.
4. We send you an email with the subject "Confirm closure of your Bird account". Open it and select **Confirm closure**. If you're asked to sign in, sign in with the account you're closing.

The confirmation link is valid for 24 hours. Nothing happens to your account until you use it. If the link expires, start again from step 1.

## Why isn't DELETE accepted?

Type `DELETE` exactly as shown: in English and in capital letters. If your browser translates the dashboard into your language, it can translate that word on screen as well. The box still only accepts `DELETE`.

## Why can't I close my account?

If the dashboard shows **Resolve these organizations first**, you're the only owner of an organization that still has other members. Each organization in the list needs someone in charge of it before you leave. For each one, either:

- make another member an owner, as described in [Invite your team](/docs/knowledge-base/getting-started/invite-your-team#changing-roles-and-removing-people), or
- remove the other members, so the organization is deleted together with your account.

Then close your account again.

## What gets deleted?

Your profile is deleted, and you can't sign in with that account again.

An organization where you're the only member is deleted with your account. That includes its workspaces, phone numbers, domains, contacts, and API keys. Any wallet balance in it is not paid out: see [Refunds and your wallet balance](/docs/knowledge-base/billing/refunds-and-wallet-balance).

An organization with other members keeps running. You're removed from it, and everyone else keeps their access.

## Can I change my mind?

Yes, for seven days after you confirm. We email you the date the account will be deleted. To cancel, select **Cancel closure** on the banner at the top of the dashboard, or in that email. The link in the email works without signing in. Your account then stays exactly as it was.

If someone joins one of your organizations during those seven days and you're its only owner, we stop the closure and email you. Make another member an owner, or remove the members, and then close your account again.

## How do I delete my whole organization?

The dashboard has no option for this. [Contact support](/help/support) if you want to close an organization rather than your own account.
