# Usage, spend & invoices

Everything your workspaces consume is metered against one organization and lands in one billing stream. Three pages under [**Billing and payments**](https://bird.com/dashboard) show it from three angles: **Usage** (what you sent), **Spend** (what moved through the wallet), and **Invoices** (the formal monthly document). Between them you can account for every cent.

## The Usage page

The [**Usage**](https://bird.com/dashboard) page opens with this month's headline numbers: total spend so far (with a projection for the full month), and how many emails, SMS, WhatsApp messages, and verifications you've sent.

Below the cards, each product gets its own section with a daily chart and a breakdown table — by sending domain for email, by destination country for SMS and WhatsApp. A range picker switches the charts between the last 7, 30, or 90 days. Two reading tips:

- **Email counts against your plan.** The email section shows consumption against your included monthly volume; sends beyond it are the overage described in [Plans & pricing](/docs/knowledge-base/billing/plans-and-pricing).
- **SMS and WhatsApp are paid from the wallet as you send**, so their "spend" numbers are money already charged, not a forecast.

Usage is shared across workspaces — they all draw on the same allowance and the same wallet, and this page shows the organization-wide total.

If email overage shows up here month after month, that's the signal to look at the next plan size: upgrades apply immediately, allowance included ([Plan changes & renewals](/docs/knowledge-base/billing/plan-changes-and-renewals)).

## The Spend page

The [**Spend**](https://bird.com/dashboard) page is the wallet's ledger: every charge, top-up, refund, and adjustment in order, each with a description, the amount, and the wallet balance after it. Filters narrow it by product, transaction type, or date range, and there's a search box for descriptions.

This is the page for "what was this charge?" questions. An SMS burst, a plan renewal, an auto top-up — each is a row here, timestamped, with the running balance making it easy to see exactly when and why the balance moved. When reconciling an invoice, this ledger is the money-movement side of the same story.

## The Invoices page

The [**Invoices**](https://bird.com/dashboard) page lists one invoice per calendar month, issued at the start of the following month. Each row shows the invoice number, status, billing month, total, and amount paid, and downloads as a PDF for your records or finance team. Filters cover status, type, date range, and invoice number.

Statuses are what you'd expect: **Open** (issued, not yet fully paid), **Partial** (partly paid — common with bank transfers), **Paid**, and **Void** (cancelled and superseded; corrections are made by voiding and re-issuing, never by editing a sent invoice). Most invoices are the **Debit** type; a **Credit** invoice is a credit note in your favor. If your organization pays on invoice terms, the due date shows in its own column; for prepaid organizations the invoice is informational, since the money already moved through the wallet.

One timing note that trips people up: your **plan period** follows the date you subscribed, while **invoices** follow the calendar month. So a single invoice can contain a plan renewal, that plan's overage, and the month's pay-as-you-go usage, even though the plan period started mid-month.

### Reading the line items

- **The recurring plan charge** — the fixed amount for your plan. On every invoice, regardless of volume.
- **Metered overage** — only if you sent past your included email volume: the quantity and what it cost.
- **Pay-as-you-go items** — one line per messaging product used that month (SMS, WhatsApp).
- **Add-on subscriptions** — a recurring monthly line for each dedicated IP or phone number you hold.

Wallet top-ups are deliberately _not_ invoice line items — a top-up is you moving money in, not Bird charging you. Each top-up gets its own payment receipt, and the [Spend page](https://bird.com/dashboard) ties the two views together.
